When her husband fell she took his place swabbing and loading the cannons at the battle of Monmouth in 1778, receiving commendation by George Washington

She was the first woman in the United States to receive a military pension. Her nickname was “Captain Molly”

She disguised herself as a man and enlisted under an assumed name; after her discharge she successfully petitioned as a veteran, one of only 2 women (the other was Corbin) to receive it.
